HOW TO NAVIGATE THE CAREER CHOICES MAZE

The variety of career and training opportunities available for young (and old) in the Peel continues to increase into 2009. Changes to the education and training system give locals many training options including a local university, online and correspondence study, structured workbased learning and school based apprenticeships and traineeships. Whilst this is great the decision making process has only become more complicated and convoluted. It can at times seem like you are attempting to find your way through a very complicated maze. How do you find the information you need and what pathway do you take to get to your career goal. Is it best to study TEE, undertake a pre-apprenticeship or start working? How do you choose what is best for you, will there be job opportunities, what pay do people earn and how to get there? These are all problems that Career Guidance Officers are trained to assist with by providing free one on one guidance sessions and workshops. Another way to find information to help with career decisions is career information evenings. These evenings are an excellent opportunity to talk to advisors and guidance officers from Employfast CCI WA, Murdoch University (including Bardy Aboriginal Centre), Curtin University, Challenger TAFE, Employment Directions, Apprenticeship and Traineeship Company and Fairbridge. The next Information Evening will be held this Wednesday 27th August at Pinjarra Senior High School and the second on Tuesday 9th September at Coodanup Community College. For any enquires and to RSVP please phone Employment Directions Network Peel on 9581 4606.

Employment Directions is a free Career Guidance Service available to the Peel Community.
